Sweet Lexi

As I was tucking Connor into bed last night, I made a comment to him that when his cousin Lexi is born, she'll have the same white blanket as he does. "No she doesn't!" He was adamant. Well, this morning Dre had to go in so her doctor could attempt to turn Lexi since she was breech. Lexi proved to be pretty stubborn though, and refused to turn. The decision was made to do a c-section. Hence, Alexandria Marie officially joined our world at 8:29 this morning, weighing in at 7 lbs 12.5 oz, and measuring 20.5 inches - not quite the amazon baby Nate and Dre imagined they'd be having. After work, I picked Connor up from daycare and told him I had a big surprise for him. We went home to pick up Dada and Aunt Tin, then headed to the hospital. He had absolutely no idea what was in store for him. When we arrived, he realized we were at a hospital (or "hostiple" as he calls it) and asked if we were going to see Grandma. We found our way through a maze of hallways, and as we rounded a corner, saw Nate coming out of a room. It took a moment for recognition to hit Connor, but when it did, he ran towards Nate with a huge smile on his face. When we entered the room and he saw Dre, he smiled even bigger. But when he saw little baby Lexi, his face became expressionless. My guess is it was shock. I'm sure it was very confusing to him to hear us talking about Lexi being in Dre's belly for so long, then all of a sudden she appears without warning. He didn't want to go near her at first. He stood back watching me hold the sleeping baby, who happened to be wrapped up in a white blanket just like his favorite one at home. Gradually he started venturing closer. Eventually, just before it was time to head out, he leaned in for a kiss on her forehead. Precious.
