Date Night

Not even three years old, and Connor was invited on his first date. Granted, it was with Aunt Tin and I went along as a third wheel. He didn't know where we were going, just that it was a date. We spent some time in the morning at the hospital visiting Nate, Dre and Lexi. I knew he'd fall asleep on the way home, so we stopped for a bite to eat before heading home. Even though he did fall asleep in the car, it was still considerably later than he's used to going down. And of course we had to wake him up early so we could head downtown. Needless to say, he wasn't in the greatest of moods. His mood lightened a bit when Aunt Tin pulled out a Mickey Mouse t-shirt for him to wear on the date. He stated it was "a nice surprise." We made our way to the theater, found our seats, and waited for the show to begin. As we waited, we took some pictures to pass the time. I also found some snacks for the grumpy boy.

.
The lights dimmed and music started to play. Connor was still clueless as to who was going to appear onstage. Before long, Mickey Mouse made his appearance. Connor's eyes got really wide and a huge smile spread across his face. Eventually, even more characters made their appearances - Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Donald Duck and Goofy. There were others that he could care less about. At various points during the show, they had all the kids in the audience dance. We happened to be on an aisle, and believe it or not, Connor made his way out to the aisle so he could dance. There wasn't a lot of lighting so I was unable to capture the miracle on film.

All in all, Connor was pretty pleased with the show. Again, it was "a nice surprise." We were all pretty hungry by this time, so we made our way back to our end of town and stopped in at a Chili's. Of course we hit peak dinner time on a Saturday night, so had to wait a bit. Connor entertained himself by drawing some pictures for us.

Usually Connor has to eat all of his supper in order to get any dessert. But Aunt Tin was calling the shots tonight. He was able to pick his very own dessert from the menu and didn't even have to share with anyone. Of course he had to pick a mammoth lava cake that's about as big as he is. He loves chocolate and ice cream, so he was in heaven. I don't know where he put it all, but he ate every last bite of his ice cream and really did a number on the cake itself.

He was pretty worn out by the time we got home and was ready for bed. As I was tucking him in, he had to remind me about everything he had seen. Then he paused, looked at me, and told me his tummy hurt. It's definitely a night for him to remember.
