Fun in the Sun

Connor's daycare holds an annual family picnic. Nanny was coming into town this weekend anyway, so she decided to come a day early so she could join in the festivities. Unfortunately, Dada had to work. When Nanny and I showed up for the picnic, Connor was so involved in his activities that he was completely oblivious to the fact we were there. We watched him for a good ten minutes before he finally saw us. It gave us the opportunity to see how he interacted with all his friends and are pleased to say he is a very well behaved boy. It turns out he's pretty independent as well.

Once he realized he had an audience, he became a little show off bursting with excitement. Before we started eating lunch, we watched the kids run through the sprinklers, wash a car, paint the fence, play basketball (Nanny even got in on some of that action), and take a time out for some "Elmo juice" with his friend, Rita.

I guess because there was so much going on, Connor really wasn't too interested in eating. He wanted to keep playing. After lunch, the real fun started. The kids were treated to a pony ride. Of course Connor wanted to do it again, but since there were so many kids, each kid only got one ride. That was definitely the highlight of the picnic.

After the pony ride, Connor grabbed a snow cone. I think he took one bite, handed it to me, then headed over to the playground. He scaled the climbing wall several times, walked across the bridge while holding Nanny's hand, and went down the twisty slide. We managed to talk him into checking out some of the other activities they had going on. He thought he wanted his face painted, but when it came time for his turn, he changed his mind. Instead, Nanny helped him make some sand art. It looked like a rainbow right after he made it. (By the time I got home from work though, it looked quite different. He had given it a few good shakes and mixed up all the colors.) We decided we had all the fun we could handle that day, and called it quits. I dropped Nanny and Connor off at home so someone could take a nap, and I headed back to work. It was fun while it lasted.
