Memiss Lights
One of the best things about Salt Lake City in the winter is when they turn on all the lights in Temple Square. We were all pooped after the wedding festivities, so gathered at Grandma and Grandpa's for a bit until it was dark. That's when the lights came on. We bundled up (it was bitterly cold) and set out for a stroll through the square.
Before reaching it, we were lucky enough to see Santa driving a horse drawn sleigh. Connor went bonkers: "Santa! Santa!" For anyone who hasn't seen the lights firsthand, you're missing out. It may sound trivial. After all, they're just Christmas lights. But it's more than that. The lights are wound around each and every teeny, tiny branch on every tree. There's also the music that plays. Of course the setting has something to do with it too. Add that with the Christmas spirit, and it becomes almost magical.
I hadn't been in a few years. They've added some new sights since I visited last. The life size nativity was beautiful. They had many nativities set up, representing different countries and cultures from around the world. They've also added luminaries to the pathways, with symbols and words in every language punched out to shine through: Noel, Silent Night, Messiah, etc. Once we decided we were frozen through, we headed back to the grandparents' for hot cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate. A great ending to a great (but tiring) day.
