Da Braves
When we go to Rockies games, we are usually in the majority and are cheering for our local team. The only exception is when the Braves are in town, as was the case today. So we set aside our Rockies gear and donned our Braves gear instead.
Even Connor had a little jersey that I found for him back when Daddy was still over in Iraq (yes, before conception). It finally fits! We had to forego his Braves cap though. We've been planning on going to this game for several months now, and I was hoping the cap would hold out for me. But apparently all that increasing brain matter has made Connor's lil' noggin too big for it. So instead, he wore his Rockies cap. He was going to be rooting for both teams. Now, unbeknownst to some, Connor has a newfound talent of throwing tantrums. He's getting quite good at them. And on occasion, they can be downright doozies. It's for that reason that Daddy and I debated whether or not he should even accompany us to the game. I had confidence that Connor would pull through for us and be the angel he usually is. Daddy was still doubtful, but left it up to me.
It didn't bode well when Connor threw one of his fits while I was attempting to take a picture of my boys in their Braves gear. But once we were officially going "buh-bye" and in the car, all was right with the world again. He decided to throw one last fit in the parking lot when we told him he had to hold my hand AND Daddy's hand, but that was it. We walked into the ballpark and he immediately became fascinated watching all the people and children. He's a lot like me - likes to people watch. But once he caught sight of the field, he started pointing excitedly and repeatedly said "ball!" We found our seats down on the 9th row, just up from 1st base, and right on the aisle. We had to bring new snacks out of the bag every now and then to divert his attention, but overall, he did excellent for his age. I know grown adults who wouldn't have done as well. During the 7th inning, we took a walk up to get one of my beloved "tornadoughs" (yum!) and walked around a bit. Daddy decided to throw a few pitches in one of the cages. Without even warming up first, he got up to 73 mph. Impressive! We sat down again just as the 8th inning was about to begin. Within moments of sitting down, Connor was passed out on my lap. Just like that! We decided it was time to go at the top of the 9th, when the Braves gave up some more runs to the Rockies. The end score wasn't quite what we wanted (8-9) but it was a good game. There were two, count them TWO, grand slams!.
