Yeeha, It's a Party!
Okay, so it's almost two months later. But this entry is a biggie, and it took some time to put it together. Or maybe I've just been slacking off. I'll leave it up to you to decide.
.
The dilemma every parent has when their child turns one . . . to have a party or not? The kids don't really care. They have no idea what the fuss is all about. They're just wondering why you're messing with their naptime. Everyone knows it's more for the parents, family and friends than anything. I didn't hesitate with the decision for very long. Connor was going to have a party . . . a great big one, western style.

THE PARTY FAVORS
A kid's birthday party isn't complete without the party favors. Everyone was required to wear a bandana. Some wore them the proper, western way. Others, in defiance, found other ways of wearing them (i.e. Daddy). There were also crazy straws, sheriff badges, card games, bubbles (Connor's favorite item), Magic 8 balls, and miniature water guns.

Connor made out like a bandit. Check out all the loot he received. It's a good thing Nanny gave him a wagon to haul it away in.

THE CAKE
THE CAKE
The most notorious part of a first birthday is the destruction of the birthday cake. You never know what they'll do to it. Being the chocoholic that he is, Connor's little cake had to be chocolate. We thought for sure he'd dive right in. We lined the floor with plastic. We stripped him of everything that would need to be washed.
Then it was the moment we were all waiting for . . . we placed him on the floor and set the cake down in front of him. He tentatively reached forward and stuck his finger in the frosting, then brought his finger to his lips. That was pretty much the extent of his interest in the cake. What a letdown! The biggest mess was made when he turned to crawl away from the cake and happened to drag his foot through it. We'll just chalk it up to being his naptime. Daddy ended up smooshing the cake on Connor's belly, which really didn't make him too happy. Cousin Kenner was going crazy trying to get at the cake. After the mess was cleaned up, we belatedly thought that we should have sent Kenner in as Connor's stunt double to properly destroy the cake and smear it all over the place. We're keeping that thought in the back of our minds for October, when Connor may need to help out Kenner for his first birthday cake...
