Hair Today . . . Gone Tomorrow

When visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Utah, Connor and Kenner had their pictures professionally taken (details to follow). I usually don't have to comb Connor's hair, mainly because he doesn't have much. But really, his hair behaves on it's own most of the time, so it's very low maintenance. However, while wetting down his hair and combing it for the picture, I realized Connor had the unthinkable . . . a mullet. Something had to be done! What better day to have your first haircut than on your first birthday? Recommended by another proud mom (Owen's Mommy a/k/a Amy's friend), I decided we would visit Snip-Its on his birthday to have his locks cut for the first time. We waited for Nanny to arrive from Texas so she could join us, then hit the road with Aunt Jules and Cousin Kenner in tow. Haircuts are old news to Kenner. He's already had four of them, and isn't quite six months old yet. But to Connor, it was a whole new experience. At first he didn't know what to think, but was soon distracted by toys, the video playing on the TV above him, and other kids coming in for haircuts of their own. He wasn't so easily distracted when the clippers came out. He kept turning his head to see where the noise was coming from, but luckily his hairdresser was quicker than he was. For the five minutes he was in his chair, he was awarded a certificate for the "courage and bravery" a first haircut requires. They also swept all his snip-its of hair into a baggy for his scrapbook, took a snapshot of him with his new big-boy haircut, and let him get a "prize" from a nifty little contraption - a cheesy, somewhat scary and smelly (as Nanny was quick to point out) little toy that could be a descendant of Gumby's family of bendable parts. (It has since found it's way into the trash can. No love lost.) When asked, not many people can tell much of a difference with his haircut, but I know the truth. The hair in the ziploc is just another confirmation that Connor is no longer a baby. He's growing way too fast!
